Rockingham July 1st/2nd
Qualifying took place on a dry track Charles had problems with the car leading into qualifying and unfortunately on the 3rd lap of qualifying Charles’s engine let go and he had to stop at the side of the track leaving him starting right at the back.
Race 1:
A new engine was fitted to Charles’s car before race 1 and was finished just in time for the first race. Charles got a ok start and held the position but he could feel the wasn’t something right with the engine he was losing masses of time on the straight. On lap 4 leading up to the 1st corner the engine gave up again this time because of a driveshaft coming out due to a bolt in the engine mount. This was the second time in two races that Charles hadn’t made the end the championship wasn’t looking as good as early in the season.
Race 2:
Another new engine was fitted to the car for this race and Charles was starting at the back again. The lights went out and Charles got a good start and gained a place going into the first corner. But once again Charles could feel that he was losing masses of time on the straight which was demonstrated when a fellow competitor drove round the outside of Charles on the straight. He managed to limb home in 5th. A few weeks later it was discovered that the problem was not the engine but a part of the exhaust
